The Royal Danish Defence College (RDDC) invites applications for an associate professorship in Public Governance and Management at the Department of Leadership and Organization.
The successful applicant is expected to contribute significantly to the department’s research and teaching environment and the overall research strategy of RDDC. We also expect the applicant to strengthen collaboration with defence actors, institutions and society regarding military management and force generation.

Examples of research areas that the applicant might cover:
• Public governance and management, hereunder defence management
• Cross-sector collaboration, co-creation, and co-production
• Military innovation and military force generation
• Governance networks, policy labs and design thinking
• Societal security and crisis management

About us
The Department for Leadership and Organization (ILO) conducts education, research, and development in the field of leadership and organization primarily within the context of the Danish Defense. We educate leaders at all levels, from non-commissioned officers to military top executives within the areas of leadership, command, management and administration. In addition, we provide support for professional development and organizational reform processes within all our areas of expertise. We work in close collaboration with military staff, analysts, researchers, and other civilian occupations.
Our research focuses on leadership and organization from an interdisciplinary perspective. Methodologically, we work both qualitatively and quantitatively, drawing primarily on case and field studies. Our current research projects range from comparative studies of operational leadership (command) to collective defence and the changing character of war and battlefields, to studies of public governance and reform implementation, to focusing on phenomena such as societal resilience and military adaptation, to investigations of the military profession – including how professionals are developed, trained, and educated

About the position
The associate professorship is a full-time and permanent position with teaching and research responsibilities starting on 1 September 2024 or as soon as possible subject to mutual agreement. To fulfil the requirements of the positions, we expect the applicant to be physically present regularly, actively participate in the activities of the department and help support the research and teaching environment.

The job responsibilities are:

• Research meeting high international standards
• Teaching in existing and future RDDC programs, including the military master program and the strategic leadership program
• Developing new teaching programs, involving didactic experimenting (such as war gaming) and research-based teaching
• Initiating fundraising and coordinating research projects
• Contributing to the administrative responsibilities of the department and to RDDC faculty tasks
• Communicating findings to the public in general and to RDDC stakeholders in particular
• Developing collaborative initiatives between defence institutions and relevant actors
• Active participation in department activities, including research meetings and workshops

Qualifications
• PhD degree or equivalent in a relevant field 
• Documented excellence in teaching, research (peer-reviewed scholarship), and service 
• Documented teaching qualification for evaluation of the applicants’ pedagogical level. All applicants must submit a teaching portfolio where teaching competencies are documented. 
• Documented research production at an international level 
• Teaching and research experience within the areas of public governance and management and/or related areas.

Ansættelsesvilkår
A part of the teaching obligation is in Danish, especially the part related to administration, it is an advantage the applicant can write and speak Danish.

Terms of Employment, Salary, and Contact Information
Salary (before tax, exclusive 17.1% pension):
Assistant Professor: Approximately 41,500 DKK per month
Associate Professor: Approximately 45,500 DKK per month
Note: Foreign applicants may be eligible for the Special Tax Scheme for Researchers.

As an employee at the Ministry of Defence, you must be able to obtain a security clearance and obliged to participate in peace-making and peace-keeping operations.

The applicants will be shortlisted and hereafter reviewed by an expert committee. The committee will review the applicants’ research and teaching qualifications in accordance with the criteria outlined in the job posting. The assessment process can take up to three months.
